Our Solar System In Focus
Robotic probes launched by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the European Space Agency (ESA), and others are gathering information right now all across the solar system. We currently have spacecraft in orbit around the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, and Saturn. Several others on their way to smaller bodies, and a few on their way out of the solar system entirely.
On Mars, a rover called Spirit has just been officially left for dead, after two years of radio silence from it but its twin, Opportunity, continues on its mission, now more than 2,500 days beyond its originally planned 90-days.
With all these eyes in the sky, here is a photo album of our Solar system, a set of family portraits, as seen by our astronauts and mechanical emissaries.

Global Warming Effects On Greenland's Ice
Across Greenland's vast white landscape, small teams of researchers from around the world are searching for clues about the potential effects of global warming on Greenland's ice. They're measuring the movement of glaciers, the density of the snow pack, the thickness of the ice and more, trying to gauge how much will melt and when.
Greenland's Inuit people have been witness to the rapidly changing landscape. The Inuit have countless terms in their language to describe ice in all its varieties, and its disappearance directly affects their lives.

Associated Press photographer Brennan Linsley recently spent some time on the massive Arctic island, documenting the researchers, the residents, and the varied ice that dominates the landscape.

Alaska Applied Physics Laboratory Ice Station
A few months ago, Reuters photographer Lucas Jackson was invited to the 2011 Applied Physics Laboratory Ice Station (APLIS), a temporary camp built out of plywood on Arctic sea ice. Far north of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, the camp housed a couple dozen members of the British, Canadian, and U.S. navies and employees of the Applied Physics Laboratory.
Jackson spent two days at the camp, watching its residents conduct tests on underwater and under-ice communications and sonar technologies. He kept his camera equipment warm and functional with chemical hand warmers whenever possible.

Collected here are some chilly images from Jackson's trip to the far north last March.

That doesn't sound like much but if you see his photographs you'll understand that he really enjoys taking these types of photos and is really good at it. The contrast in some of these pictures is amazing and makes you a little envious that you weren't there when he took those photos so you could experience such great landscapes.
Let's see some beautiful photos. Also, most if not all of these collection is good for desktop wallpaper. Sometimes reality is better than imagination. This part 2 of 2 part of sunset and sunrise, or maybe some of you call it dawn and dusk, of these stunning photography.

9 Tallest Mountains In Solar System
Mount Everest, at 29,029 feet tall (5.5 miles), is the tallest mountain on earth. But, not known to many, Hawaii's Mauna Kea is actually much more taller than Everest, which is actually 33,465 feet tall, although only 13,796 of which are above sea level.
If we look beyond our planet earth, there are lots and lots of taller mountains compare to Everest and Mauna Kea. Following are the tallest mountains in various worlds of the Solar System. Heights are given base to peak.
9. Arsia Mons, Mars > 9 km (5,6 mi)
![]() |

Arsia Mons is 270 miles (approximately 435 kilometres) in diameter, almost 12 miles high (more than 9 kilometers (5.6 mi) higher than the surrounding plains), and the summit caldera is 72 miles (approximately 110 km) wide. It experiences atmospheric pressure lower than 107 pascals at the summit. Except for Olympus Mons, it is the biggest volcano in volume. Arsia Mons has 30 times the volume of Mauna Loa in Hawaii, the largest volcano on the Earth.
8. Mauna Kea, Earth = 10,2 km (6,3 mi)

Mauna Kea (Hawaii) has an altitude of 4,205 meters (2,6 mi) - much lower than Mount Everest. However, Mauna Kea is an island and if the distance from the bottom of the nearby ocean floor to the peak of the island is measured, then Mauna Kea is taller than Mount Everest. Mauna Kea is over 10 km (6,2 mi) tall compared to 8.848 m (5,5 mi) for Mount Everest - making it the Earth's tallest mountain.

Morning Glory Clouds
The Morning Glory cloud is a rare meteorological phenomenon occasionally observed in different locations around the world. The southern part of Northern Australia's Gulf of Carpentaria is the only known location where it can be predicted and observed on a more or less regular basis. The settlement of Burketown attracts glider pilots intent on riding this phenomenon.
Despite being studied extensively, the Morning Glory cloud is not clearly understood. Regardless of the complexity behind the nature of this atmospheric phenomenon, some conclusions have been made about its causes. Through research, one of the main causes of most Morning Glory occurrences is due to the mesoscale circulations associated with sea breezes that develop over the peninsula and the gulf
A Morning Glory cloud is a roll cloud that can be up to 1,000 kilometres (620 mi) long, 1 to 2 kilometres (0.62 to 1.2 mi) high, often only 100 to 200 metres (330 to 660 ft) above the ground and can move at speeds up to 60 kilometres (37 mi) per hour. Sometimes there is only one cloud, sometimes there are up to eight consecutive roll clouds.
The Morning Glory is often accompanied by sudden wind squalls, intense low-level wind shear, a rapid increase in the vertical displacement of air parcels, and a sharp pressure jump at the surface. In the front of the cloud, there is strong vertical motion that transports air up through the cloud and creates the rolling appearance, while the air in the middle and rear of the cloud becomes turbulent and sinks.

Majlis Al Jinn - Spirits Gathering Cave
Majlis al Jinn also known as Majlis al-Jinn or locally called as Khoshilat Maqandeli is the ninth largest cave chamber in the world, as measured by the surface area of the floor. It ranks higher when measured by volume. The cave is located in a remote area of the Selma Plateau at 1,380 meters above sea level in the Sultanate of Oman, 100 km south-east from Muscat.
Majlis al-Jinn means meeting/gathering place of the Jinn. This spectacular cave is one of natural wonders in the world. The locals believe that Jinns lives in caves and since this is one of the biggest cave in the world, this chamber surely must serve as their majlis, or meeting place. That is how it got the name Majlis Al Jinn.
The entrances were discovered in June 1983 by Americans W. Don Davison, Jr. (nickname: D2) and his wife, Cheryl S. Jones. Don, a hydrogeologist, who was employed by the government of Oman's Public Authority for Water Resources (PAWR), which later became the Ministry of Water Resources. The cave was located and mapped as part of the PAWR's Karst Research Program.
